On a July weekend in 2015, 1000+ web developers from across the southern China came flocking to Shanghai for “iWeb Summit 2015 – Shanghai Station”. “iWeb Summit” is an annual HTML5 developer-focused conference held by HTML5 DreamWorks, one of the largest local HTML5 communities in China.
Haili and Wenxi, two members of the XDK team, played an important role at the event. Haili's keynote address “Intel Inside HTML5 – Faster, Richer, Easier” introduced the XDK and Crosswalk to local developers. Wenxi showed how XDK can benefit HTML developers by demonstrating some of XDK’s powerful functionalities, including remote debugging, CPU/Memory profiler, live development and the game asset manager at the tech sharing session.
In addition to the keynote & tech sessions, we also had a demo booth near the conference hall where our demo video was playing continually. The video explained the workflow and all functionalities of Intel ® XDK and attracted many developers. The highlight of the video was the game asset manager – people were amazed by the fluency of its visual effects. There was also plenty of excitement about the remote debugging, profiler and online build system, with many developers commenting on how easy-to-use and powerful they found the features.
Haili had a meeting with one of conference guests, Lin Shun, who is the co-founder of Cocos team and chief architect of Cocos2d-js. Lin Sun mentioned the AnySDK Cordova Plugin, which has been deployed into Crosswalk & Cocos team’s first real-world game as In-App-Purchase (IAP) module. Here is the feedback from Lin Shun: “AnySDK Cordova Plugin is really a good approach to access IAP for Cocos2d-js game and Cordova app. We think Cocos2d-js, Cordova and Crosswalk developers could make full use of it in similar projects.”
Feedback from other developers that we met with at the iWeb Summit:
“The game asset manager looks great! It seems that you've invested a great deal of effort in the Cocos engine. Have you considered supporting more game engines, such as Egret*?” – game developer
(Egret* is a another popular HTML5 game engine run by a local company, details here: http://www.egret.com/ )
“The idea of the online build is awesome! Does it work properly? I really should try it. If it does, I think I won’t bother to buy a Mac specifically for building Cordova apps for iOS.” – Cordova* developer
“Your IDE is terrific! I’d like to invite you guys to give a lecture to my developers for using it to develop mobile apps.” – CEO of a local incubator
This exciting event was a great way for Wenxi and Haili to prepare for the upcoming “iWeb Summit 2015 – Beijing Station” on August 8th, which is expected to be attended by 3000 developers. We are hoping to have the Chinese edition of XDK ready to unveil at Haili's keynote address.
